Fizz and cake were the order of the day on Monday 29 July 2019 at Holy Trinity, Washington when the Mothers’ Union celebrated 125 years of service in the parish.

Rector and Queens Chaplain Rev Canon David Glover and curate Rev John Estall presided over a wonderful service which linked the Mothers’ Union objects with bible readings and hymns. David gave an inspiring sermon, speculating on what life had been like, especially for women, back in 1894 and pointing out how MU had supported all the changes in family living across 125 years. He emphasised how radical MU was then and continues to be, especially in places like Southern Africa where women are still seen as second class citizens. David set before us the challenge of the next 125 years, where he hoped MU would continue to help shape and support the future of family living in all it’s forms. He ended by reading out a letter from Her Majesty the Queen, sending her best wishes for a memorable and successful day.

Branch members and guests from across the Deanery shared the Eucharist and after the service, shared friendship and fellowship over prosecco and a special celebration cake.
